Jobs and the Economy

Colorado has historically been a state in which small businesses could thrive and entrepreneurs have come to this state because of the independent spirit and the opportunities for success with hard work and resourcefulness. I have been in private practice in a law firm so I have some experience with the challenges faced by small businesses.

One of the things I am interested in is providing good jobs for the residents of House District 8. Jobs that pay a living wage and provide viable pensions must be available to the average person. When the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center moved to Aurora, it took a number of good jobs with it. We must watch the new development on that site to ensure that it also provides jobs for those in the neighboring communities.

  • The personal property tax exemption for small businesses at $2500 is too low. I support raising that exemption to $7500
  • I support the development of retail in the University Health Sciences Center redevelopment
  • The redevelopment of the Dahlia Street shopping center area has been discussed for some time. It is time to work to get a viable development on that site.
  • I support a youth summer employment program to give our young people the opportunity to make some money while helping local businesses.
  • Fair wages must be paid to those who are working.
  • I support tax incentives for companies that move into lower income areas and provide jobs to those in the neighborhood.

If we can keep Colorado’s economy strong, companies will want to locate here and our residents will be in a better position to find well paying jobs.
